In the 1980s, families from El Salvador came to Australia because of the political situation in that country. Many Christian families were seeking somewhere to congregate and looked for a congregation that would identify with their faith. Some families come from Misión Cristiana Elim, El Salvador. These families came together and formed Iglesia de Dios Elim, Australia which was originally located in the suburb of Guildford, Sydney Australia in the year 1989. In, the beginning the congregation was lead by a group of men who were recognised as leaders of the church. Soon after this, former Senior Pastor Sergio Solórzano from Misión Cristiana Elim, El Salvador came and visited our church where he established the family group system.
Meanwhile, Iglesia de Dios Elim, Australia felt the need to reform its way of governing, and the decision was made to name a Pastor and an Assistant Pastor, elaborate doctrine and create statutes, all while seeking legal advice. In 1992 Iglesia de Dios Elim, Australia registered with Fair Trading New South Wales as Iglesia de Dios Elim Inc.
The church moved to the Smithfield area looking to reach out to the Hispanic community in the South Western Sydney Region. Former Senior Pastor Sergio Solórzano from Misión Cristiana Elim, El Salvador visits the church every year and this makes Iglesia de Dios Elim Inc. a well known congregation in the Hispanic community. During this time another change is made and a single Pastor is called to be responsible for the congregation.
During the 1990’s, Iglesia de Dios Elim Inc. is visited by Pastors from Misión Cristiana Elim, El Salvador and Pastors from Iglesias De Restauración, Los Angeles. The Pastors instructed the church on how small home groups called “cell groups” work. In the year 1997, Iglesia de Dios Elim Inc. changed its name to Elim Mission Christian Church Inc. and the complete doctrine of Misión Cristiana Elim, El Salvador and its form of government is incorporated.
Currently we run seminars, conferences and annual retreats. We are located in Fairfield East, NSW Sydney Australia. We have Sunday morning English service and afternoon Spanish service, every Friday night youth group, every Saturday night “Cell Groups” in English and Spanish across South Western Sydney, suburbs. On the 6th of December 2020, we celebrated the grand opening of our new building. After years of waiting upon our Lord, EMCC has a new home on the corner of Tangerine and Campbell St in Fairfield East, NSW.
The purpose of this congregation is to proclaim the Gospel according to the Great Commission that is to share the good news of salvation to the world and that in Jesus Christ alone there is forgiveness of sin and eternal life.
